City Walking Tour

Explore fascinating Buenos Aires on this very pleasant walking tour of the city's cultural and historical highlights.

After being transferred downtown, you will meet your local guide, who will lead you on a "local's view" of the city, where you will walk and use public transportation (bus and subway). You will see historical buildings, monuments, and streets that display the changes the city has experienced since its founding foundation.

Sites you will visit include the Plaza de Mayo. The modern plaza took form in 1884 and is the scene of the 1810 revolution that led to independence. Here you will see the Casa Rosada, City Hall, Metropolitan Cathedral, and several other government buildings.

You will also visit the San Telmo neighborhood, the oldest in Buenos Aires. The well-preserved colonial buildings are home to cafes, tango parlors, and antique shops. Many say it is the soul of the city.

The La Boca neighborhood still holds a strong European flavor with its colorful houses and pedestrian streets. It is also home to the Boca Juniors, one of the world's best-known soccer teams.

A 30-minute stop will be made during the tour so you can purchase a snack or lunch on your own. Your guide will be able to make recommendations.

Your last stop of the day will be in the Recoleta district of town, which has a great historical and architectural interest. It is also one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. The Recoleta Cemetery is one of the main tourist attractions here. It was dedicated in 1822 and is located next to the former monastery of the Recollect Fathers. Here, you can view an outstanding display of nineteenth- and twentieth-century funerary art and architecture in the form of private family crypts of the upper classes. It is home to the remains of many Argentine historic figures, including Eva Peron, whose grave is visited by large numbers of tourists daily.

Your tour ends at the cemetery so those guests wishing more time to explore can do so. From here, if time allows, guests can either walk (12 blocks) or taxi to the main pedestrian street in Buenos Aires to see the many shops, have a snack, or just relax. Those wishing to return to the ship can hire a taxi (outside the cemetery) From either location, the ride is approximately 10 minutes back to the ship pier. The cost of the taxi is approximately $8 US (not per person) and is not included in the price of your tour.

Please Note: This is not an embarkation/debarkation tour, and luggage cannot be accommodated on the transportation.
